As announced by PM Carney, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada has now released its full “𝗔𝗜 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗹𝗹” national strategy, setting out an ambitious vision to accelerate AI adoption, strengthen sovereign AI infrastructure, support Canadian AI champions, and attract highly skilled talent.

The strategy aims to generate CAD 200 billion of economic growth, to welcome hundreds of new dynamic companies developing AI solutions in Canada and to create 250,000 new AI-related jobs, while positioning Canada as a global leader in artificial intelligence. According to ISED’s statistics, over 3,500 Canadian-based firms are already actively developing advanced AI models, tools, and applications, collectively raising more than CAD 37 billion in venture capital funding.

As Canada doubles down on AI, innovation, and technology commercialization, business immigration could become an increasingly important tool to attract founders, investors, and global talent needed to achieve those objectives. At the recent Canadian Bar Association Immigration Conference, IRCC's Economic Immigration representative indeed confirmed that the department collaborates with ISED in the development of business immigration programs.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see whether the priorities outlined in ''AI for All'' influence the design of the forthcoming entrepreneur pilot program and, potentially when looking at the economic outcomes, the development of a future investor-focused immigration stream to help retain and scale Canadian AI startups through more adequate funding.
