Great to attend the #TradeTO – Trade Diversification Summit at Toronto City Hall on Monday.

It was an excellent opportunity to hear insightful discussions from government officials, academics, and industry leaders on how Canada and Canadian businesses can strengthen their global competitiveness, respectively through emerging trade partnerships and market diversification.

One theme that stood out was the growing recognition that trade diversification is not only about accessing a new client market, but it is also about demonstrating resilience and flexibility, and exploring alternative trade routes to mitigate risks in an era of geopolitical fragmentation.

It was also a timely reminder that Canada has already established free trade agreements with more than 50 countries. Yet, these agreements often remain underutilized by SMEs, whether for export opportunities, business expansion, or to leverage the mobility provisions that can facilitate the attraction and retention of foreign talent and innovators in Canada. They could be amazing tools to unlock diversification and global business opportunities.

Thank you to the City of Toronto, Toronto Business (City of Toronto- Business and Economy) and International Economic Forum of the Americas for organizing such an engaging event and fostering an important dialogue on the opportunities ahead for Canadian businesses.
