As the 20th Toronto Global Forum comes to a close, it has once again provided a valuable opportunity to hear from global leaders, this year on the theme “New Rules, New Opportunities”. Key discussions ranged from redefining leadership in a demanding era, to leveraging technology, AI and talent to advance sustainability, as well as balancing economic growth with regional priorities.
One of the highlights was the Day 2 panel, “Building regional prosperity: the role of anchor institutions,” moderated by Erveina Gosalci, featuring Ibrahim Alhosani (Mubadala), Patrick Brulotte (Cogeco), Herb Emery (University of New Brunswick), Clare Barnett (City of Toronto) and José Mafra (FGA). The discussion explored how businesses can become stronger partners in regional development, how governments can unlock growth beyond major metropolitan centres, and how public-private collaboration can help ensure that major investments generate lasting economic and social value for the communities in which they operate.
Alongside the forum, it was also a great opportunity for JDL Immigration to reconnect with long-standing collaborators at Global Startups and deliver an immigration-focused session for founders participating in their Hamilton-Niagara Startup Bootcamp.
As noted previously, there is no shortage of momentum in Canada's economic and innovation landscape. So let's hope that immigration policies keep pace, enabling innovative founders and talented entrepreneurs to build, grow and continue to contribute to Canada's prosperity.
