Delighted to have been part of an exciting discussion to wrap up October, focused on entering the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region for business expansion and diversification, as part of the Emerging Markets in the Spotlight series organized by Global Startups.

I was pleased to join an outstanding group of panelists and moderator, following Attilio Augieri’s presentation of the APAC white paper and opening remarks by Susana Vaz (City of Toronto - TradeTO): ▪️ Emerson Cheng (Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade) ▪️ Brian Bui (Mahogany Innovation et Investissement / UniMOF) ▪️ Miryam Lazarte (Global Startups)

It was a great opportunity to share insights into what makes APAC strategically attractive for Canadian founders, explore cultural nuances and business dynamics between Canada and Asia - as well as across the many distinct markets within Asia - and discuss how these differences can create friction or become a competitive advantage for foreign companies.

We also exchanged practical advice on key considerations to validate before scaling to APAC, drawing on real-life experiences and lessons learned to illustrate how to navigate business opportunities across the Pacific.

Ultimately, successful international expansion is about more than identifying the right market; it is about understanding the people, human interactions, and building successful bilateral partnerships.
